On November 23rd, Dr. T. Dwayne McCay, President of Florida Institute of Technology (FIT), visited our university and attended the joint program exchange meeting together with President Mr. Hu Zhongjun and Vice President Mr. Xia Li in 1st meeting room of the administration building.
The meeting started with Dr. Wang Qi’s brief to HUE-FIT joint education program and program’s mid-term assessment of Ministry of Education of China. Dr. He Qiang, the Special Assistant to Vice President of FIT, gave a detailed introduction to the program of studying abroad in America.
President McCay said that he was glad to visit our university for the third time and expressed his appreciation for HUE’s continuous support for the joint program, which has already sent 13 students to FIT. HUE is located in the Optics Valley of China, while FIT is situated in the Aviation Valley of US. Taking the geographical advantages, the two universities have great potential for future exchanges and cooperation. He hoped that the two sides could learn from each other and promote more fruitful and effective cooperation in academic exchanges. He also looked forward to attending the graduation ceremony of 2018 session students in the US and shifting the tassels of their caps.
President Hu Zhongjun extended a warm welcome to President McCay's revisit. He pointed out that with the unceasing social and economic development of China, a large number of compound talents mastering one specialty with multi-skills are needed, which results in higher requirements for universities’ talent cultivation mode. He requested that relevant departments should constantly improve basic conditions, invest more resources to the joint program and explore approaches to improving English teaching. In his message to all freshmen of 2018 session, he kindly wished that they could set one goal for career development and improve simultaneously two areas of expertise in terms of specialty and English, cherish learning opportunities, fulfil themselves and contribute to the society.
